This piece is an arrangement of « Marianne s’en va-t-au moulin », a french song that probably originates from Normandy, as suggested by the mention of Saint-Michael’s day, Normandy’s patron saint. Nowadays not very common in France, this folkloric song is still very much alive in Québec, an important part of its population being of normands’ descent. This song has a personal meaning, since my mother used to sing it to me as a lullaby when I was a child. The arrangement tries reconcile the lively and humoristic nature of the song with the warmth and quietude it evokes for me.
